Do you know the story of Proephets Hud and Saleh??
« on: Tuesday 05 March 2002, 18:33 »
PROPHETS HUD & SALIH

Allah sent prophets and messengers as mercy for the people. The prophets of Allah are committed to steering the people to the righteous path and to teaching them to adhere to the faith of Islam and its rules.
Among the thousands of prophets, there are also Messengers. All messengers are prophets but not all prophets are messengers.

Allah supported all his prophets with miracles. A miracle is an extraordinary thing that occurs in agreement with prophet-hood. It cannot be imitated, or equally opposed. Miracles serve to defeat those who defy Islam. Furthermore, miracles are of two types. The first type may appear without the request of people and the other may appear upon the people’s request. These miracles would be illustrated further in the story of Prophet Saleh and especially in the story of the wonderful she-camel he extracted from solid rock, upon the people’s request.

In our lead into this miraculous event, we’d like to give a brief overview of how Allah sent a series of prophets as mercy to the people. These prophets were on a mission to strengthen the faith of the existing Muslims of that time by reminding them to always adhere to what is right and avoiding what is evil; as well as redirecting their own nation from the darkness of blasphemy into the light of Islam. Some prophets had only to remind their people to stay on the righteous path and to increase worship because in their time there were no blasphemers only Muslims.

Such is the time of Prophet Adam. At that time all the people were Muslim and remained worshipping Allah alone until a time after the death of prophet Idris, when the first act of blasphemy among humans, occurred on earth. It spread in the thousand years, leading upto the revelation of prophet Nuh. This means, Nuh was the first prophet sent to a nation that included non -Muslims, to teach them about Islam and steer them back to the right path. The majority didn’t believe in prophet Nuh. Consequently, the non-believers drowned in the flood. This flood was the first catastrophe on earth ridding the land from the non-believers. Approximately 80 believers entered the ark with prophet Nuh and they were the only ones saved.

Shockingly, some time after the flood, blasphemy re-occurred from the descendants of Nuh’s three Muslim children. Allah then sent another prophet. His name was Hud, and his mission like the prophets before him, was to steer the people back to Islam and to teach them to worship Allah, their only Creator. Hud was the forth generation descending from Sam-the son prophet Nuh. Hud was the first prophet among the Arabs. His people were known as the people of ^Ad. They occupied a large tract of country in Yemen.

The people of ^Ad were distinctively tall in statue. It’s mentioned that the tallest among them reached a height of 100 cubits. This is equal to approximately 50m. It is stated in the Quran, there were no people like them in their era. With their extensive building skills, they erected sturdy castles and towers. They were very proud of their advanced civilization. However, their pride and arrogance didn’t serve them correctly.

Prophet Hud instructed them with good manners and conduct, He said,
“ Believe in Allah your Creator, you have no other God but Him. He has provided you with plenty of good things and given you the ability to build cities and dwell in them safely. He is your provider, so praise Allah for all of this and leave those man-made idols and worship the Creator of the worlds, our Lord Allah.” However, they belied prophet Hud and were too proud to adhere to his instructions and become Muslim.

Because of their arrogance and continuous blasphemy, Allah sent onto them a strong wind that terrified their lives for eight days and seven nights. The wind blew them in the air and dropped them with such a force separating their heads from their bodies. Thus, the stubborn headed blasphemers were destroyed and their pride shattered along with the cities they were proud of. All the people of ^Ad died except for prophet Hud and his those who believed in him. It’s important to know that this catastrophe was meant to be a lesson for the people that followed.

The successors of the people of ^ad were the people of Thamud. Did they learn from the lessons of their past or did they also fall in to the ditches of the devil. Lets find out as we explore the story of Saleh and the amazing she-camel, the miracle that appeared upon the people’s request.

The Thamud people were indeed the inheritors of the Arabic culture from the civilization of the ^Ad  people. They were also referred to as the younger cousins of the ^Ad people because their forefathers were brothers and the sons of Sam, the son of Nuh.

The people of Thamud were situated in an area between Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Their land included rocky country and fertile valleys with springs and date palms and plenty of fruit trees. The people of Thamud were the first civilization to carve their houses into rocks and mountains. They established for themselves 1700 cities as such, where they lived safely and securely.

Like the ^Ad people before them, the people of Thamud also became overwhelmed with the further advancement of material civilization. As a result, they too became increasingly faithless and arrogant. They worshipped idols. Like their predecessors, they also needed someone to save them and guide them to the right path-to Islam.

Soon prophet Hud was bestowed upon a man from among their people. Saleh, who is referred to in the Qur’an as kin to the Thamud people, emerged from among them as their prophet and Master. He taught them to leave the idols and worship Allah. “He is our Savior and our Provider,” he told them,“ You must praise Him for all the good things He has provided you with, like the fertile land and the plenty of fruit trees and the safety and security you feel in your homes.”  But only those people of Thamud, who had little influence and were poor, believed in prophet Saleh the rich and forceful wee the majority. They chose to follow in the path of their ancestors, and so belied the prophet.

The leaders of the non believers anticipated that Saleh’s followers would increase. In order to prevent this and in disapproval they said to Salih, “You are merely a man like us, you eat like us and you drink like us. To believe you we need to witness a sign proving your message.” So, they asked him. “If you are truthful, then extract from this rock a she-camel and her male calf then we shall believe in you.”  They specified a huge dense rock known as Al-Katiba. They knew for sure that it was not hollow or carved, but it was as solid as a rock could be expected. Undoubtedly, they were waiting for the chance to mock prophet Saleh, with their false confidence in that Saleh would fail to meet their challenge.

Little did the blasphemers know that Allah is in the aid of his prophets. By the will of Allah and in support to His prophet, they all witnessed a pregnant she-camel walk out of the rock. Their request had been answered and the sign of Salih’s truthfulness was made apparent to all. This miracle was a vivid explanation of how miracles serve to defeat those who chose to defy Islam. Despite this visual truth, the stubborn headed non-believers didn’t submit and remained turning their backs to Islam. A small number of people including some of their leaders however, embraced Islam after witnessing this miracle

The non-believers were challenged to restrain from committing evil and harming others. Verses in the Qur’an mention the challenge that prophet Saleh gave to the horrible non believers of Thamud. Salih said to them,
“A clear sign has come unto you from your Lord. It is the she-camel of Allah so leave her to graze on Allah’s earth and let her come to no harm, or you shall be seized with a grievous punishment.” Salih instructed them that they are to alternate days with the she camel and her new born, when using the well and pastures. He ordered that she be left to graze from their pastures and drink from their well every second day. In effect this allowed the people of Thamud to use their wells on the other days. Prophet Salih ordered that no harm was to come to the camel.

The people of Thamud complied with Saleh’s instructions for some time. They even learnt how to live with the camel gaining from her produce. On her day of grazing the people milked her for all the milk she could produce. After feeding her baby they distributed the milk upon their people and it went around in abundance. This is added proof of  Allah’s generosity and that in this life He the exalted is merciful even upon those that deny Him. Undoubtedly this is apparent in the Thamud people in that Allah had provided them with benefits such as the plentiful supply of milk from the camel. However he mercy of Allah is extended only to the believers in the hereafter, because they praised his generosity and believed in Him.

The leaders of the arrogant party said to the believers who were presumed poor and powerless, “Do you know for sure that Salih is a messenger of God?’ They said: ‘We do indeed believe in the revelation which has been sent through him.” The arrogant party said: “For our part we reject what you believe in.” Then they killed the she-camel and deliberate defied the order of the Lord. Their greed drove them to object to the camel having sole access to the waters every second day and killed to kill the camel.

Upon seeing his mother’s death, the baby camel was afraid and ran towards the mountains being chased by the people. Unlike his mother, the baby camel was saved from the evil doers. He entered a rock as miraculously as his mother was extracted from a rock in the beginning, and was never seen again.

Arrogantly they said to prophet Salih, “ Oh Salih bring about the punishment, if you are truly a prophet of Allah.” The promised torture was not delayed for long. The Arrogant non-believers awoke one morning to find their faces had turned yellow. The following morning they were shocked as they witnessed their faces turn red. On the third morning, their faces reflected the color of their hearts as it was obviously black. Shaking stiffly with fear, they sat awaiting their fate.

The mighty angel Jibril then arrived with the order of Allah, the exalted. It is mentioned in the qur’an that angel Jibril let out a magnificent screech. This single earth-shattering screech was enough to tremble the land sending fear into the hearts of the non-believers. As a result the earth quake destroyed the whole civilization they were once proud of. Their mountainous castles collapsed and those who challenged the truth were buried under the ruins and rubble of their city. Only Salih and his Muslim followers were saved.

Salih turned away from his people saying, “Oh my people, I did indeed convey to you the message for which I was sent by my Lord. I gave you good counsel, but you love not good counsels.” Understandably, the prophet was full of grief because his people refused to submit to Islam and died this terrible death.

It is truly ashamed for people to indulge in this life consuming and taking advantage of all the benefits Allah has provided for them and yet deny Allah the creator of everything or associate partners to Him. What do such ungrateful and selfish people expect to be rewarded with, other than everlasting torture in the Hereafter. The prophets of Allah repeatedly warned such people, but they refused toe take head of this warning and insisted upon dying non-believers.

It is important that we take the examples of the past as a lesson for us. It is important for us to know that as long as we are alive we have the opportunity to repent from our sins. It is important for the non-Muslims to know that as long as they are alive they have a chance to embrace Islam and save themselves from the everlasting torture of Hellfire. To become a Muslim a non-believer must believe and say, “No one is God except Allah and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah.”  The converting person should say this with the intent in the heart to become a Muslim and to leave all that contradicts Islam.

May we stay steadfast on the true path and die with complete faith, and may Allah guide those among us to the true path. Ameen.

The end. :-(

But the good news :apl1 is that there's more where it came from. If your interested,,,,;-)

Keep smilin' :usmile1
