Why is this the judgement against M'uawwiyah?
« on: Saturday 12 August 2006, 09:38 »
Assalaamu ^Alaiykum, Did M'uawwiyyah (radiallahu anhu) and others... only sin because they made war against the Caliph? Please could someone clarify this for me. I mean, were they entitled to their own Ijtihaad as long as they didn't make war on Imam ^Aliyy.
Thank You !!!  :-D

Barak Allahu Feek

i was told that it is a big sin to rebel against the Khâlifah. therefore, this is y mu'awiyyah was in the wrong. Allâhu ^alam, will try n find out more though. 'in shâ'a-llâh

wa 3alaikom assalaam

welcome to TAI ISG :)

Ijtihaad can not be in a place where it contradicts the explicit texts of the Qur'aan & Hadeeth.

When Imaam Ali became the Caliph, evey person must obey him.

An Ayah in the Qur'aan:

{????? ????? ?????? ?????? ???? ??????? ??????? ?????? ?????? ????}

This shows that we must obey the caliph.

Hadeeth:

((?? ??? ?? ?????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??????? ??????? ??? ??????))

The Prophet likened this person who leaves the obedience to a cow who leaves its "leash" and goes off on its own and puts itself in danger.

The Prophet said to al-Zubayr what means: <<You will fight Ali and you will be the one who is unjust to him.>>

The above 2 proofs show that it is explicitly stated that we should not rebel against the Caliph, hence one can not make an ijtihaad opposite to what is explicit.

The last proof shows that even az-Zubayr was sinful but of course he repented of his sin before he died.

Mu^aawiyah is from the Companions but he was sinful by committing this.

Imaam Ali said what means: <<Bani umayya fight me thinking that i killed uthmaan - and they lied... If I knew that swearing by Allaah at the maqaam that I did not kill Uthmaan nor order his killing would stop them from what they are on, I would have done it but they want mulk (ownership?).>>
narrated by al-Haafith musaddad in his musnad. and narrated by al-Haafith Sa^eed bin Mansoor in his sunan.
