The Eternity of Allah
« on: Sunday 14 May 2006, 11:52 »
Praise be to Allah. We humbly ask Allah to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad ??? ???? ???? ????, his Al and Companions, and to protect his nation from that which he fears for it. We ask Allah to enable us to learn that which benefits us, to increase our knowledge, and to grant us the sincere intentions. We humbly ask Allah to facilitate for us the routes of goodness and to protect us from the routes that lead to Hellfire.

Shaykh ^Abdullah said: Not one of the Attributes of Allah will ever be interrupted or ended, such as His eternal and everlasting Life (which is not a combination of body, blood, soul and flesh). This because His Life is never interrupted or ended. Likewise, His eternal and everlasting unchanging Will (which is fulfilled absolutely and is not like the will of any other) is never interrupted or ended. Similarly, His eternal, everlasting and absolute Knowledge (which is not like the knowledge of any other) is never interrupted or ended. Also His eternal and everlasting Kalam (which is without letter, sound or language, and is unlike the speech of any other, with which He Orders and Prohibits) is never interrupted or ended. This is just as His eternal and everlasting Life (which is not a combination of body, blood, soul and flesh) is never interrupted or ended. Indeed, He is Alive and His Life has neither beginning nor end. Likewise, His eternal everlasting Kalam has neither beginning nor end and is never interrupted or ended. His eternal and everlasting Kalam is one of His Attributes and will never be interrupted or ended. Also, His eternal and everlasting absolute knowledge (which encompasses everything and is not like the knowledge of any other) will never be interrupted or ended. Similarly, His Sama^ and Basar (which are not like the hearing and sight of any other) will never be interrupted or ended. His Sama^ (the eternal and everlasting Attribute of Allah that is without instruments, whether ears or otherwise, with which everything that is hearable is heard) will never be interrupted or ended. His Basar (the eternal and everlasting Attribute of Allah that is without instruments, whether eyes or otherwise, with which that is seeable is seen) will never be interrupted or ended. Had Allah and His Attributes not been exalted and free of interruption and ending, He would have created. Is not true that we know that the universe is created by the sight of created attributes? Had Allah, ta^ala, been attributed with created attributes, He would be similar to the universe. Therefore, it is obligatory to avoid what contradicts this. Some people think that if one supplicates to Allah or keeps good relations with his kin or gives in charity, that Allah will change His eternal and everlasting Will and Knowledge in relation to that person. They think that Allah knew eternally that this person would be afflicted by such-and-such and that if this person asks Allah, gives in charity or keeps goods relations with his kin, that Allah, ta^ala, will change what He eternally knew would affect this person. This belief suggests that Allah is created. This is because the created attribute indicates the creates reality. How would we know that this Earth is created, that is did not exist and then came into existence? We know this because there are sign. This is because the Earth undergoes many changes: in the winter it is cold to the touch and in the summer it is hot to the touch. Similarly, the Sky undergoes many changes in its attributes. Likewise, the bodies that we cannot observe, such as the ^Arsh (the ceiling of Paradise) and Paradise, are both attributed with the attributes of creation. This is because they are specific bodies that have specific sizes. Everything that has specific size has need of the one who specified it with that size and brought it from a state of non-existence into a state of existence. Hence, we can derive the evidence that the Creator of the parts of the universe is never subject to changeable conditions. He will never be attributed with any created attribute. This is because if Allah had been attributed with one created attribute, He would be similar to these parts of the universe. Therefore, it must not be believed that Allah is attributed with new attributes. Whatever leads to the idea that Allah is attributed with new attributes, whether among the apparent meaning of the verses of the Qur’an or the apparent meaning of the Ahadith, must not be interrupted literally. They must be interrupted with Ta’wil (a form of interruption which avoids the literal meaning in order to give a meaning that befits Allah). This methodology must be practised and it applies to any scriptural statements that have literal meaning from which it may be imagined that Allah is created. This is because it is neither logical nor possible that the Reality has no beginning while its Attributes have a beginning.

Some of the ancient philosophers correctly believed that Allah has no beginning and that the universe has a beginning. However, most of them held the belief that the universe has no beginning in the same way that Allah has no beginning. They said: “Allah has no beginning because of His Reality; however, the universe has no beginning as a consequence”. They believed that the Existence of Allah, which has no beginning, has no beginning, has the consequence that the existence if the universe is without a beginning. This is their biggest blasphemy.

Therefore it is obligatory to take special care in teaching people about the Azaliyyah of Allah (i.e. that there is no beginning to Allah or His Attributes) and that it is impossible that a new attribute would come to Him. This must be done to remove the delusion in people’s minds that has afflicted them because of their negligence in learning the Creed in the way that is obligatory. Merely reading a few books of Creed and relying only upon reciting their texts without understanding the meaning as is obligatory, will not protect people from deviation in creed, especially in this time when the deception of the Resemblers (who liken Allah to His creation), the Wahhabiyyah (the so-called Salafiyyah or the so-called Ahlu-Hadith), have spread. Since they, may Allah damn them if they insist upon this state of blasphemy and die in it, mislead people who are not firmly rooted in the matters of belief. They spread deception that leads these people from the Right Creed to a deviant creed.

A Sunni who is among the people of knowledge and devoutness met a Wahhabiyy in Morocco, while the Wahhabbiyy was spreading his deception among the youth of the city. When the Wahhabiyy came along with some of the young people, they said to the Sunni: “He said about you (i.e. this Wahhabiyy said about Ahl-us-Sunnah), that you deny the existence of Allah by saying that Allah is neither in the universe nor out of it; thus, you say that He does not exist”. According to the false claim of the Wahhabiyyah, the one that exists is necessarily in a place. According to their allegation, Allah ta^ala is either inside or outside the universe. Therefore, they believe that saying ‘Allah exists, but He is neither inside the universe nor outside the universe’ is a negation of the existence of Allah.

The Sunni in response, asked: “Who created the universe?”
The Wahhabiyy answered: “Allah”.
The Sunni asked him: “Before Allah created the universe, did He not exist?”
The Wahhabiyy replied: “Of course He did”.
The Sunni continued: “And He was neither inside the universe, nor outside it, since originally there was no universe. Then after Allah created the universe, He remained existing without being inside or outside the universe”. At this, the Wahhabiyy was silenced. The young people of the city began to argue with the Wahhabiyy, saying to him: “This is the correct belief”, (i.e. the saying that ‘Allah exists, but He is neither inside nor outside the universe’ is the correct belief). The only defence of the Wahhabiyy was to say: “Shut up, you don’t understand the Religion”, when it was he who brought these youth in the first place.

When some people hear this verse: {?? ??? ?? ?? ???} , (Surat ar-Rahman, verse 29), they think that the meaning of it is that Allah changes His Will every day. This is ignorant; the meaning of this verse is as the Messenger of Allah   has interpreted it. The Prophet ??? ???? ???? ???? said that it means: “???? ???? ????? ???? ????? ???? ???? ?????? .This means: “Allah forgives sins, removes calamities, raises the rank of some tribes and lowers others”. This means that Allah creates things every day - new creations – but He will never be changed. This is in accordance with the sayings of the people of Sham, “He is the One Who changes and will never be changed”. The meaning of this verse of the Qur’an is that Allah creates creations every day. It does not mean that Allah changes His eternal and everlasting Absolute Knowledge and Will which are not like the knowledge and will of any other.

Indeed, the Qur’an is a light and guidance to the one who understand it correctly, whereas whoever does not understand it correctly will be ruined and lost. This applies to the Hadith since it is a light and guidance to the one who understands it correctly, whereas whoever does not understand it correctly will be ruined and lost. Indeed, Allah did not reveal the Qur’an in order that everyone who hears or recites it would be guided by it. Allah revealed the Qur’an in order that its true interpretation be a guidance to whomever He Willed to be guided and that its false interruption be a misguidance to whomever He Willed to be misguided. The first verse of Surat al-Baqarah after its opening verse is: {??? ?????? ?? ??? ???} (Surat al- Baqarah, verse 2). This means: “This is the Book wherein there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are devout”. This verse proves that the Qur’an is a guidance to whoever Allah Willed eternally to be guided. Then after this another verse came: {??? ?? ????? ????? ?? ?????} (Surat al- Baqarah, verse 26). This means: “Allah will misguide many people by their misunderstanding of the Qur’an or by their belying of it. And Allah will guide many people by their understanding of the Qur’an”. This verse clarifies that some people will benefit from the Qur’an and some people will not. They will be ruined either by belying the Qur’an totally or by misunderstanding it. This is the meaning of the verse: {??? ?? ????? ????? ?? ?????} (Surat al- Baqarah, verse 26).
