e-freemixing
« on: Friday 17 March 2006, 04:22 »
Assalamualaykum

Everyone knows and agrees it is not Islamically correct to 'chat' with the opposite sex.

There are exceptions, like when it is necessary and for Islamic reasons, even this should be done from behind a screen or veil of some sort.

Now, what do you think about 'e-freemixing'?, when brothers and sisters chat about things which is not related to deen.

Brothers and sisters chat on MSN, it is not permissable to chat on a one-to-one with a non mahram.

Also, this could even take place in Islamic forums, we should be careful, shaytan is clever.

Wassalam

Walaykum salaam
As far as i know it is ok to chat on the internet as you are not together as such. What you should remember is that the chat should be restricted to things that you would be prepared to say to each other infront of your parents or your shaykh for example.
We are allowed to speak to members of the opposite sex, we are just not allowed to be alone with them, ina place where noone can see you. Again what you speak about should be what you would be ready to say infront of your parents or shaykh. You need to see whomever you recieve your information from, so as the transmission of what he is teaching is passed on in the correct manner, so being behind a screen would prevent this. Some people take segregation to the extremes in saying that women cannot even pray behind men even with a distance between the men and women.
Hopefully someone else can elaborate more

Assalamualikum,

Good point sister, but will I be wrong if I was to say that Islam recomends us to avoid things which might lead to doing something Haram.

think about it, MSN is a gateway to Fitnah, it's just an open gate to start doing something Haram, Shaitan is way cleaver then us and he uses things like MSN, YAHOO messengers to make us fall into his traps. I know people who started off just chating and talking in modest way then ended up meeting up then "going out".

Now I am not saying it's HARAM to chat on msn, but wouldn't you consider something haram if there is a possibility that it might lead to Haram/sinful?

The Rule: What leads to an unlawful is unlawful exist but it doesn't apply the way you are elaborating.
If a woman bought a cellphone wouldn't it possible a man call her by mistake and starts talking to her and they end up "going out"?
this doesn't mean a woman is forbidden from owning a cell phone...

I don't understand your question? What do you mean by "Free-Mixing" & what does it have to do with MSN and similar Chat systems?

Forum is not one to one conversation, therefore no.

are we going to keep going in circle?

okay tell me this what kind of Islamic forum would allow you to have private chat? then again there are many which allows the PM function, which I am strongly against. Think about it if there is no PM function then how are two oposite gender meet?

are they going to put each others number on the forum? so the whole world can see? or
are they goign to put their address?

so when your saying forum can lead to haram, yes it can but isn't it us webmasters duty to avoid this? we can't cut the chance of e-freemixing by 100% but atleast we can try.
