2 types of Friends
« on: Sunday 30 December 2001, 19:09 »
Allah, the All-Wise says: "Friends on that Day will be enemies one to another, except al-Muttaqoon (i.e. those who have Taqwah)." [43:67]

Hafidh Ibn Katheer, commenting on this verse, relates a story on the authority of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (radiyallahou Anhou) and says that any friendship for other than Allah is turned into enmity, except what was in it for Allah the Mighty and Majestic: Two who are friends for Allah's sake; one of them dies and is given good news that he will be granted al-Jannah, so he remembered his friend and he supplicated for him, saying: O Allah, my friend used to command me to obey You and to obey Your Prophet (sallalahou Alayhi wasallam) and used to command me to do good and to forbid me from doing evil. And he told me that I will meet You. O Allah, do not let him go astray after me, until you show him what you have just shown me, until You are satisfied with him, just like You are satisfied with me." So he is told: "Had you known what is (written) for you friend, would you have laughed a lot and cried a little." Then his friend dies and their souls are gathered, and both are asked to express their opinions about each other. So each one of them says to his friend: you were the best brother, the best companion and the best friend." And when on of the two disbelieving friends dies, and he is given tidings of Hellfire, he remembered his friend and he said: O Allah, my friend used to order me to disobey You and disobey Your Prophet, and commanded me to do evil, and forbade me from doing good, and told me that I would not meet You. O Allah, do not guide him after me, until you show him what you have just shown me and until you are dissatisfied with him just like You are dissatisfied with me." Then the other disbelieving friend dies, and their souls are gathered, and both are asked to give their opinions about each other. So each one says to his friend: you were the worst brother, the worst companion and the worst friend."

Wallah i couldn't agree more and of course we see this happening every day of our life, when two people meet at a point of corrution, their friendship will not last unless it is cleansed with sincerity and honesty. That is,  if they are lucky and Allah loves them they will be made to see their faults and in some way correct it by putting their friendship back on the straight path. The prophet did mention in his hadith that as Muslims we should support our brother in Islam whether he is a victim or has been unjust. To help our brother who is unjust means to guide him away from sin, from the unjust act. THAT IS THE SINCERE HELP. And that is what you talk about in your explanation of teh hadith. Barak Allahu feek

May Allah make us among them. Ameen. May Allah make us among those who can be sincere to their friends. TO love them sincerely for the sake of Allah and to wish for them all the goodness, no matter what. Allah Yar7amuna ya akhi abdullah_waqqas.

This life offers us nothing to laugh about, but it has plenty to laugh back on us.

Just a word of advice
« Reply #4 on: Wednesday 06 February 2002, 05:12 »
This is some benficial guidance aimed at all readers not only brother Abdullah-waqas

Please accept from me this advice as i give it to you in all humbleness.

When we explain an ayah of the quran in a language other than the perfect arabic that it was revealed, we shouldn't refer to it as "Allah said.." because Allah didn't actually reveal the ayah in other than the exact words in the quran. When we explain an ayah in english (for example), like you have above, its best to refer to it as "the ayah says....." not  "Allah says....."

The same rule applies to the hadith of the prophet. When we mention a hadith but fail to say it exactly how the prophet said it in Arabic, we refer to it as, "the hadith says....."  not  "the prophet says..."

The rule is NOT TO ATTRIBUTE TO ALLAH OR THE PROPHET WORDS THAT ARE NOT THE PRECISELY AS WRITTEN.

Wa barak Allahu feekom
