The ''wahhabi''myth...by:Haneef James Oliver
« on: Sunday 20 November 2005, 14:36 »
Unfortunatley, some of the muslims have been responsible for misleading others by calling anybody who contradicts their local customs, beliefs or innovated superstitions and religious practices as being ''WAHHABEE''seems to take on diffrent meanings in diffrent times and places.

This appellation is based upon the precept that a religious scholar by the name of Muhammed Ibn 'Abdul-wahhaab had come with a new religion which contravened the norms of Islaam.Who was this man and what exactly did he write about???

Born in the town of 'Uyaynah in the year 1206h Muhammed Ibn 'Abdul-wahid became disturbed with the religious practiceses of the people which contained polytheism, superstituans and sanctification of the saints and graves, all of which are in clear oppposition to the Islaaic texts.

The term ''wahhabi'' is often used VERY freely. The russian media, for example, use it as a term of abuse for muslim activists in Central Asia and the Caucasus,as well as Russia itself-rather as the Western media use the vague and derogatory term ''Islamic Fundamentalism''.

Regrettably,Hardy falls into the same trap  of misappropriating this term when he states that Usaamah bin Laadin is a ''WAHABBE''.
I WILL,INSHALLA CONTINUE....

Actually Amaya you are wrong by saying that The US calls all Sunnah Wahhabies it's a baseless claim.
And Muhammad Ibn Abdel Wahhab didn't "fix" the releigion from bad and innovative habbits as you claim. he came up with a new releigion based on Ideas the were dead for 500 years or more.
And btw any Post that contains baseless information and misleading fabrications will be deleted without hesitation.

He is the one who established tawheed in saudi.
This is is actually a baseless claim, and what the wahhabi teachers are brainwashing you in Saudi Arabia.
They really built a solid fence around the whole country for a long time.
One can still remember the days in Saudia when the so-called Muttawa^s used to climb the buildings roofs to destroy satellite dishes. The danger that came from these dishes wasnot becoz of porn-like broadcastings, but becoz of the truth that may be revealed to the simple saudi people from outside.
Ibn Abdul Wahhab didn't establish tawheed, he actually established tajseem and tashbeeh.
Muslims faught for a long period of time the wahhabi-saudi allied forces. Unfortunately that the foreigh (mainly british) backup that the wahhabis received helped them to take over the whole peninsula.
Nevertheless, I myself tend to admire The saudi king Abdullah for his wisdom to trying to alleviate the deep shadows cast on the saudi people by wahhabis. His endeavour to make everyone participte in opinions sharing is appreciated. The national dialogue conferences are a step forward. Still, more should be done.
