Test of honesty (an adapted story)
« on: Sunday 30 December 2001, 00:35 »
A brother had moved to a new area to serve as Imam there.  For several weeks since he arrived, he would often take the same bus from his home to the mosque, familiarising himself with the places and people.

But this particular day, his ride to the mosque would be a journey to remember.

Everything had gone on as usual. Bus was late, kids were rowdy and to everyone else, he was just another passenger... oh how he missed the happy familiar faces of the brothers and sisters that he left....he reminisced fondly as he moved to the back of the bus.....oh wait a minute, he checked the coins in his palm, the driver had accidentally given him  too much change.

He looked across to the driver and considered what to do.

Return the money, it would be wrong to keep it.
Oh, forget it, who would worry about this little amount?
The bus company will never miss it, they are doing very well.
It is a gift  from Allah, accept it and be keep quiet.

Finally his stop came, the door opened but the Imam paused momentarily .... he lifted his head slowly to the the driver...

"Here, you gave me too much change", he finally said placing the coins firmly in the driver's palm.

The driver's face lit, he smiled, "Aren't you the new Imam in this area? I just wanted to see what you would do, if I gave
you too much change. I have been thinking lately about Islam and planned to visit you at your Mosque. "

The world started to spin, his knees became soft and weak, he stepped off the bus grabbing onto the nearest light pole for support...

He raised two hands in duaa and sobbed, "Oh Allah, I almost sold You and Islam for a couple of coins!"

Allah Allah Allah...

Brothers and sisters, what have we learned from the story?
