Topic: What is the "Mudd" and "Sa^"

the Messenger of Allah  used a mudd ãÏ (about half a cup) of water for wudu' and a sa^ ÕÇÚ (about a pint) for ghusl.

A mudd is the fill of a pair of average-sized hands cupped together.

The sa^ is four mudds.

* It is preferred to use a small amount of water in wudu’ and ghusl.

It is also mentioned in Sahih Muslim that the Messenger of Allah  used six (6) mudds (about 3 cups) of water for wudu’ and thirty (30) mudds (about one cup less than a gallon) for ghusl.

in the madhab of Shafii one misqal weighs 24 qirats and one dirham-i shari will be 16.8 gr..in the madhab  of Shafii one misqal equals 72 seeds of barley.

Rasulullah(sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) would perform an ablution with one mud((two ritl or 875 gr) of water,and he  would make aghusl with water the volume of one  Sa(One Sa is 4200 grams of water.as,an experimented with lentils;one Sa is 4,2 litres that is four litres plus one fifth of a litre)
