Abu Talib died as a KAAFIR or MUSLIM
« on: Saturday 18 August 2007, 16:38 »
Assalaamu Aleykum,

In another forum called shiachat I had started a topic called 104 divine books in which the discussion eventually led to whether Abu Talib died as a KAAFIR or MUSLIM. My contention was that he died as a KAAFIR. Anyway to keep a long story short I was asked to provide evidence of this, which I duly did, given below. Interestingly I was banned for 7 days and my post which contained the hadiths below were removed.

The question I want to ask is whether the ahadith given below are authentic and Abu Talib indeed died as a KAAFIR?

Sahih Bukhari
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 222:
Narrated Al-Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib:

That he said to the Prophet "You have not been of any avail to your uncle (Abu Talib) (though) by Allah, he used to protect you and used to become angry on your behalf." The Prophet said, "He is in a shallow fire, and had It not been for me, he would have been in the bottom of the (Hell) Fire."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 223:
Narrated Al-Musaiyab:

When Abu Talib was in his death bed, the Prophet went to him while Abu Jahl was sitting beside him. The Prophet said, "O my uncle! Say: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, an expression I will defend your case with, before Allah." Abu Jahl and 'Abdullah bin Umaya said, "O Abu Talib! Will you leave the religion of 'Abdul Muttalib?" So they kept on saying this to him so that the last statement he said to them (before he died) was: "I am on the religion of 'Abdul Muttalib." Then the Prophet said, " I will keep on asking for Allah's Forgiveness for you unless I am forbidden to do so." Then the following Verse was revealed:--

"It is not fitting for the Prophet and the believers to ask Allah's Forgiveness for the pagans, even if they were their near relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the (Hell) Fire." (9.113)

The other Verse was also revealed:-- "(O Prophet!) Verily, you guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He will ......." (28.56)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 224:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

That he heard the Prophet when somebody mentioned his uncle (i.e. Abu Talib), saying, "Perhaps my intercession will be helpful to him on the Day of Resurrection so that he may be put in a shallow fire reaching only up to his ankles. His brain will boil from it."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 225:
Narrated Yazid:

(as above, Hadith 224) using the words: "will make his brain boil."

Volume 8, Book 73, Number 227:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Naufal:

Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib said, "O Allah's Apostle! Did you benefit Abu Talib with anything as he used to protect and take care of you, and used to become angry for you?" The Prophet said, "Yes, he is in a shallow place of Fire. But for me he would have been in the lowest part of the Fire."

Volume 8, Book 76, Number 569:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

I heard Allah's Apostles when his uncle, Abu Talib had been mentioned in his presence, saying, "May be my intercession will help him (Abu Talib) on the Day of Resurrection so that he may be put in a shallow place in the Fire, with fire reaching his ankles and causing his brain to boil."

Sahih Muslim
Book 001, Number 0408:
It is reported on the authority of 'Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib that he said: Messenger of Allah, have you benefited Abu Talib in any way for he defended you and was fervent in your defence? The Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) said: Yes; he would be in the most shallow part of the Fire: and but for me he would have been in the lowest part of Hell.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book 001, Number 0409:
Abdullah b. al-Harith reported: I heard Abbas say: I said: Messenger of Allah, verily Abu Talib defended you and helped you; would it be beneficial for him? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes; I found him in the lowest part of the Fire and I brought him to the shallow part.

Book 001, Number 0411:
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported: A mention was made of his uncle Abu Talib before the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) He said: My intercession may benefit him on the Day of Resurrection and he may be placed in the shallow part of the Fire which would reach his ankles and his brain would be boiling.

This narration is baseless and concocted since the Messenger of Allah was well aware that the bottom of Hell Fire is for Munafeqeen {Refer 4:145}

Also refer to this page http://www.geocities.com/mutmainaa1/belief/hell_description.html and search for Abu Talib.

I am shocked and dismayed to find this question from a man like azizrasul about whom I guessed has some knowledge of Quran and Hadith. If you think {Allah forbids} he was a hypocrite then whatever you earlier said straight goes into the dustbin.

The basic and foremost condition to consider someone as Munafiq is that he must have announced that he believes in Allah and the hereafter and that he testifies that Mohammad SAW is the Messenger of Allah.

The fact that you are shocked doesn't change the saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) who said if he hadn't prayed for Abu Talib he would have gone to the lowest part of hellfire. Also it was a rhetorical question, I was not stating it as a fact. I will ask someone whether Abu Talib died as Kaafir AND a Hypocrite and come back to the thread.

If what I earlier said should go to the dustbin, then you needn't participate in this thread. No one is forcing you.

A friend of mine has made the point that: -

'But has Allaah stated that the lowest part of hell is ONLY for the munaafiqoon?'

Hazrat Abu Talib Alayhis Salaam was the Protector of the Messenger of Allah.

Read Tahir ul Qadri's speeches on him.

regardless, just remember if you call him a kafir, if he isn't then accept that you have become one.

I hope Allah swt curses those who insult the man who raised the Prophet, the man who protected him throughout his youth.

I don't think a non muslim could wed the Prophet of Islam, which he did.

And you forget, the Prophet's family always worshipped Allah. What can be said is that the fathers and uncles of the 3 caliphs were probably kafirs.

As for munafiq, well he died having served the Prophet all his life. munafiqs wud be those who when the Prophet died changed their ways for greed of power and throne of khalifat.
