Caring and being considerate
« on: Monday 30 July 2007, 06:50 »
I remember hearing a story about a saint,,, a waliyy of Allâh.  I dont remember all the details so maybe someone can add them in inshâ'a-llâh

A woman entered a mans shop and was looking around. This woman let out wind and was extremely embarassed, but the man pretended he had not heard. When she asked him the prices of some of the items he was selling he would ask her to repeat, so that she felt he had maybe not heard her pass wind.

This man did this (asking people to repeat for him their words) until this woman died, so that she would not feel embarassed or humiliated.

Notice he did not lie at any stage

Excellent example of how one should care for the feelings of others. The simplest thing we say can hurt another so deeply, whilst it takes only a second for such a slip of the tongue.

Many people make jokes with others yet fail to see the consequences of such jokes

God make us better in character

Ameen.  That's a very touching story, and it gives us an important moral to thrive for good manners.  Nowadays, we see many friendships break up due to bad manners.  Many people are so inconsiderate and selfish and don't care about anybody except themselves.  I look at this story and try to imagine how much patience this man held for a long time to avoid hurting this woman's feelings.  May Allah increase our patience.

Thank you for sharing this story sister.

Your welcome dear sister

Indeed many people seem to lack such great morals and patience these days. How many people do we see nowadays, including ourselves, who get impatient at the smallest thing? Would we be able to last so many years as this man did.

God grant us the best of manners

"let out wind".

strange expression for me.

I hear "passed gas" and of course the other more common but less polite "farted"

Sorrow keeps you Human,
Failure keeps you humble
and Success keeps you glowing,
but only Faith & Attitude Keep you going...
