Abu Talib
« on: Thursday 19 July 2007, 08:54 »
I am having a dialogue with a shia who implies that Abu Talib was a Muslim on the folllowing basis: -

1. He performed the nikah (marriage ceremony) of the Prophet Muhammad  and Khadijah (sa). One of the conditions for performing nikah is to be muslim.

2. His wife, Fatimah bint Asad (sa) was a devout muslim. A muslim woman’s marriage to a non-muslim is considered batil (void).

3. When Prophet had gone to Shaam, he was offered food over there. He refused it saying that the meat was haram for him as it had been slaughtered by a kafir. Had the Prophet been eating haram food all his life, as he had been under Abu Talib’s care?

4. Once Abu Sufyan came to visit his daughter Umm Habeebah, wife of Holy Prophet, peace be upon him & HF. She immediately wrapped up the bed-mat of the Prophet. When Abu Sufyan asked the reason, she said that the Prophet never allowed a kafir to sit on his mat. If the Prophet was so particular about this, what about all the years he spent in the house of Abu Talib, in his lap, if he were a kafir, naoudhubillah?

Can anyone give a response to these points?

His answer is that Ali (ra) bathed & buried him.

Any answers to the other points, particularly 2?

frankly my advice is stick with him to the major points about differences in the doctrine itself, not to such details.

Was Muhammad (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him) present during the burial rights of Abu Talib?

when the prophet was informed by Ali about the death of Abu Talib, the prophet told Ali to go and burry him. full stop. the prophet did not invite anyone to pray on Abu Talib as to the very last moment, he refused to testify.

Can someone advice/or invite a non relative towards/against a certain point of one's belief if his own closest relative living in his house has the same belief as of that person whom adivice/invitation is being rendered? Would the other person be not justified to answer the call by saying that first please set your home right then come and advise me?

Well we advise others as much as we can, but if they are not willing to listen there is not much we can do

Giving advice to another which someone in your family refuses to take is a common occurence among people. This is not always the fault of the person giving the advice, it may simply be that the family members refuse to listen to him/her.

We ask for patience with our loved ones and others alike
