Thanks Abdullah
Welcome.
Earlier you said that all of Islam is logical and reasonable -
Yes it is.
do you find this verse about physical chastisement of one's wife to be logical and reasonable?
Wooh. Do you speak English as mother-tongue?
I had to search man….
http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=chastisementNoun
• S: (n) castigation, chastisement (verbal punishment)
• S: (n) correction, chastening, chastisement (a rebuke for making a mistake)
To answer your question.
What is wrong for you with "Correcting" ?
Even if my mum or dad says something incorrect, I would not hesitate to clearly voice out my POV.
So what is wrong in that for you?
You say it does not say "Hit", but involves a physical act. Could you tell me what this physical act is?
What I learned is that it is not "Hitting". It is not "Beating", it is not "leaving marks".
How could you describe that in English? I am not sure which words to pick. Maybe I have to do research on this. (Selma Help….. )
Do you find that Hadiths about such miracles make you believe in Islam - even though you haven't seen them yourself?
Of course, we have not seen God, but we do believe in Him (because we can see the signs of His Power – The Creation (the world)- )
You cannot imagine that a huge number of people in one place at one time would all agree to tell a first-hand experience they did not see.
Why should a (reported) miracle by someone before Muhammad make you believe in what Muhammad brought?
Say again?
That is not clear.
The reasons I ask these questions Abdullah is because I truly wish to understand what it is that makes people believe in Islam
You are welcome. I hope we will be able to provide answers.
because I have lost my own faith
May Allah help you believe again.
May Allah make our site the cause for you to re-find your faith in God and Islam.
When I look back to when I believed in Islam, I am finding it hard to pin-point what it was that made me believe in Islam for so many years.
I am not surprised. I have heard similar statements by many friends brothers and sisters who doubted in the essential beliefs of islam…..
Alhamdou lillah, Hassan, with knowledge comes belief, and with belief come peace.
Peace to your heart.
