Tabarruk
« on: Thursday 05 July 2007, 03:13 »
Assalâm u alaykum

We start in the name of Allâh and we ask Allâh to raise the rank of our beloved Prophet MuHammad (Salla lâhu ^alayhi wassallam) and to protect his Muslim nation from that which he feared for it.

Tabarruk means to seek blessing. This practise of seeking blessing through traces of the Prophet (Salla lâhu ^alayhi wassallam) is a practise instituted by the Prophet himself, was perpetrated by the Companions and not just for what was related to the Prophet directly, but also through each other.

The hair of the Prophet (Salla lâhu ^alayhi wassallam)

Al Bukhariyy and Muslim reported through Anas ibn Mâlik that this was his hair. On the version reported by Muslim it is said what means: when he, Salla lâhu ^alayhi wassallam, threw the stones at the jamarah, offered a sacrifice and shaved, he gave to the barber the right half so the man shaved, then he called ‘Abû TalHa alAnsariyy and gave it to him. Then he offered the left side of his head and said “shave”, so he shaved i.e the barber, then he (Salla lâhu ^alayhi wassallam) gave it to ‘Abû TalHa and said “give it away among the people”.

In another riwayya, reported by Muslim, he started with the right side and he distributed hair by hair or pairs of hair among people, then he ordered for the left side to be done and proceeded in the same way. Then he said “there you are ‘Abû TalHa and then he gave them to ‘Abû TalHa.

In another version reported by Muslim he said to the barber “there you are” and he pointed with his hand to the right side, then he distributed his hair among those close to him. Then he pointed the hairdresser to his left side, so the man shaved him and he gave it to Umm Sulaym.

It is reliably reported that the Prophet (Salla lâhu ^alayhi wassallam)   spat in the mouth of a child who was affected by a jinn who would possess him twice a day and he said what means “come out enemy of Allâh, I am the Messenger of Allâh”, and then the jinn came out and the child was healed. This was reported by al Hâkim.

adhDhahabiyy reported in a book called kitâbu sSayr that ^Abdu-llâh son of imam aHmad ibn Hanbal said what means

I saw my father taking one of the Prophet’s hair and putting it on his mouth to kiss it and I think I have seen him putting it on his eyes, dipping it in water and then drinking this seeking to be healed and I have seen him taking a dish of the Prophet, plunging it in a container of water and then drinking from it and I saw him drinking from the water of zamzam seeking to be healed by it and he would rub with it his hands and face.

alHâfiz azZabîdiyy said in the explanation of Ihyâ ^ulûmi ddîn, he reported that ash sha^biyy said I was in the presence of ^Aisha when she said what means

‘I have done things after the Messenger of Allâh because of which I do not know what is my state with regards to him. She said ‘so do not bury me with him for I would dislike to be next to the Messenger of Allâh not know what is my state with regards to him’. Then she called for a piece of material from the shirt of the Messenger of Allâh and she said ‘put this on my chest and bury it with me, I hope that through that I shall be saved from the punishment of the grave’.
