ASSALAMU ALAIKUM,
               MY QUESTION IS WHY ARE SO MANY WOMEN OPPOSED TO POLIGAMY WHEN IT IS A MERCY TOWARDS BOTH MEN AMD WOMEN FROM ALLAH? THIS IS NOT JUST SOMETHING MADE UP BY MAN. THIS IS IN THE QURAN. IF ALL MEN HAD ONLY ONE WIFE, WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THE UNMARRIED WOMEN? WHAT ARE THEY TO DO? I AM EAGER TO HEAR RESPONSES ESPECIALLY FROM MY SISTERS.

I believe that there is a larger female population than male popluation, so why would women need to marry an already married man? And if it is "fair" and "just" that a man be able to marry more than one woman, why is it not the same for a woman? Why can't women marry more than one man? I know that hundreds of years ago when men went off to war and thousands died and women were left without any source of income or way to support herself, men were encouraged to marry again to help other women and keep them from becoming prostitutes. Now that is not the case, women can support themselves and don't need protection from a man. So why is that law still valid? Is it maybe true that at a certain point in history the Quran is supposed to be seen in a different light? As times change, shouldn't the Quran's interpretation be taken logically, considering different circumstances? Not to say that the Quran should be changed or misinterpreted, but maybe more of an open mind should be kept considering the day and age we live in.

Women and men are different.

A woman is not a man and a man is not a woman.

Allaah our Creator Knows more about us than we know about ourselves.

The Rules He Orders us to follow are fair and just.


We know that all Prophets, from Prophet Adam to Prophet MuHammad were Revealed to.

What they taught relating to belief never changed.

But at some times the Rules did change BY REVELATION to the next Messenger.

We know that Prophet MuHammad is the final Prophet.

The rules he taught us apply until the Day of Judgment.

Who is anyone to say otherwise???

Who is anyone to say that their "common sense" is correct and someone else's isn't?

Actually the correct term is opinion.

What is it worth if it goes against the words of the Prophet who does not give rulings from his desires but gives them from Revelation.

NO ONE HAS GAVE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY ALLAH (SWT) ALLOWED POLYGAMY (THATS THE CORRECT SPELLING) .

ALSO THE VERSE IN WHICH ALLAH (SWT) LIMITS THE MARRIGE TO 4, CAME DOWN AFTER THE BATTEL OF UHUD. THERE WERE MANY WIDOWS AND ORPHANS. WHEN A MAN MARRIES A WOMAN HE WANTS TO HAVE A SON SO HE CAN KEEP HIS NAME "ALIVE" HE NEEDS A SON TO KEEP THE FAMILY NAME GOING. SO IF THE WIFE CANT BEAR KIDS. HE DOESNT HAVE TO DIVORCE HER. HE CAN MARRY A SECOND.

NOW LAST BUT NOT LEAST IF A MUSLIM DOES MARRY A SECOND WIFE HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO DEAL UNJUSTLY. IF HE BUYS ONE WIFE A BAG OF CHIPS HE MUST BUY ANOTHER A BAG OF CHIPS. IF HE GETS ONE A DIAMOND RING HE MUST GIVE THE OTHER A DIAMOND RING. HE CANT STAY WITH ONE WIFE FOR 4 DAYS THEN THE OTHER FOR 3 DAYS.IF HE CANT DO THAT ALLAH (SAYS) THEM MARRY JUST 1. ALSO THERE ARE MORE WOMAN THEN MEN . NOT JUST DURING WAR.BUT WAR MAKES THAT NUMBER EVEN GRAETER

There is something I wish to point out.

I edited one of your posts above because it implied that Islam was only at Prophet MuHammad's time. In actual fact, Islam is the Religion of all Prophets.

Imam al-Bukhariyy related that Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, said which means:

<<The prophets are like brothers from the same father with different mothers. Their Religion is one although their Shari^ah (rules of the Religion) differed. >>

Another point I need to make is that it is untrue that the man must be equal in every single thing between his wives. He must be equal in night stays and must provide each with the obligatory spending. But that is all what he is required to be equal with.

This issue was discussed in our forum more than once...

But I'll say that when a woman does not learn what's lawful and what's not, when she does not learn the rights that she has and the right that her husband have, when she does not learn the judgments in our religion, she won't understand this issue as she should, and she may come up with wrong things concerning this.
