The different ways of wearing a headscarf
« on: Saturday 14 June 2003, 15:39 »
There are many different types of ways to wear a headscarf...perhaps for those who have recently started wearing the hijaab or who want to know other ways to wear the scarf (sometimes it depends on material/original shape) this thread is for that purpose. Also for other items of clothing you may like to wear with your scarf. .

I'll put four down now, insha' Allah some other sisters on the forum can give some advice too  :sis1

1) For the scarf which looks like silk but is in reality acrylic, try and find one which is square in shape. Simply fold into a triangle and put the middle of the largest edge of the triangle on the middle of your head. Using a safety pin tie once at the bottom bringing both sides down. Then take the right edge and bring it around the left ear so that it goes under your chin and continue this to place the edge on top of your head where the partition of the hair usually ends. Secure with two or three normal open pins.

2) For a silk scarf make sure that you keep it in a place where it won't get crumpled easily because it is hard to get creases out without ironing. Also, I would suggest that if you are going to use pins, make sure they are sharp and make sure you don't feather the scarf i.e. insert the pin smoothly. If you feel like the scarf continues to slip, wear a headband underneath it: it help so much, especially when it is windy.

If you choose to wear a cotton scarf, this is the easiest to wash and sits very easily on the head. For cotton you can once again put the safety pin under the chin as in number one, and then tie both ends at the back quite loosely. Then to make sure it covers your chin and neck take another pin (the same colour as the scarf if you can) and attach the top of the left tie (at the front) to the side of the scarf on the left by the cheek.

4) If you have a beautiful pashmina scarf then I would suggest a simple and classical way of wearing the scarf is to simply put it over your head so that the two ends come down on either side. Then take one side (usually the right) and bring it around under your chin and over your head so that if wraps around and neatly tuck an edge just to the side of the cheek. You can do this type without using any pins.

Mashaa'Allah sis ndya  :sis1

What a nice topic you posted  :!: :apl1

I tend to wear cotton scarfs with an underhat underneath pinned like you mentioned in no.1  :lbw1  these  for me are the most comfortable to wear..the underhat ensures no slipping..and the cotton is cool, easy to wear, and stays in place!  (Plus, you can find loads of coooOOOoool colours and designs   )

BarakAllahu fiki  :lvlv1

Another way to wear the scarf is just to wear the simple two-piece :D No pins needed, so excellent for when you quickly need to cover up ( E.g. when you are in the house and you have unexpected guests :hmp1 hehehe.. )

salam akoium  sis in islam,

I read about hijab with  style.  it is  great !!  I use some  different  style with hijabs, I love it !!!!!:lbw1:rolleyes:

in summer time , I use for  cotton or  gauze hijabs and it makes cool .  I have  large scarves with cotton  also   triangle cotton hijabs  too .  I bought  them  from islamic  store or  paki clothes store  or  islamic clothes online,   some are   bargins or  pricey !! :gallery:  :imslow:

in  winter time  I use  woolen  hijabs or italian silk  hijabs or  thick geogette hijabs ,  it is sooo comforted  with it  but I have some  woollen underscarf.  there is no problem.

if I m in hurry ,  I put  my 2 piece hijabs  in case.

sometimes   I went  to  mijsad  I wear  simple hijabs or khimar  ( like  long  2 piece hijabs) with  jilbab or  abayah.

if  silky or newbies hijabs might  slippery  easier (   like a  yo-yo!!) .
it use with  cotton or lace head band  , it wont  slippery anyway.

may allah  protect you  all ameen

wa salam :sis1  :bump:  :handshake :bg:bg:bg:utp1:hug1:airborne:
