Torture in the Grave
« on: Thursday 05 June 2003, 05:37 »
Punishment in the Grave

It is an obligation to believe that Prophet Muhammad, may Allah raise his rank, was truthful in everything he told about and conveyed from Allah.

Among what the Prophet informed us about is the Punishment in the Grave.

It is an obligation to believe in the punishment in the grave. Those who die on blasphemy or disbelief will be punished in their grave.

Some of the punishments are:

- They will feel loneliness and fear from the darkness in the grave.

- The graves will close on their body until their ribs cross each other.

- Allah The Exalted created, specifically for the punishment in the grave, some animals that are not encountered elsewhere such as a type of large snakes and others.

- The Two angels, Munkar and Nakir will hit them with a hammer, made of iron, on the back of their head between their ears.

- They will see their place in Hellfire from their grave twice a day, once before noon, and once in the afternoon.

Moreover, some of the Muslim sinners who died without repentance will be punished in their grave but their punishment is less than that of the blasphemers and disbelievers.

Also, unlike the punishment of the blasphemers, that of the Muslim sinners does not extend until the complete decay of the body.

The punishment of the disbelievers in the grave is clearly stated in the Holy Qur’an, that is why whoever denies the punishment in the grave is a blasphemer.

Also, it was reported by Al-Bukhariyy and Muslim, from the route of Anas, that the Prophet, may Allah raise his rank, said what means:

<< When the slave* is put in his grave and all his friends leave, he will hear their footsteps. And when they are gone, two angels will come to him. They will sit him and they will ask him "What did you use to say about this man? (meaning Prophet Muhammad)”. The believer will say “I profess he is the slave and the Messenger of Allah”. Then, from his grave, he will see the place were he will be in Paradise on the Day of Judgement, and his grave will be filled with a lot of enjoyments. But the disbeliever and the blasphemer when asked will say “I do not know”. Then the two Angels will hit them with a hammer, made of iron, between their ears and everyone will hear their scream except the humans and djinns. >>

*Slave here refers to the slave of Allah, whether male or female.

It was mentioned in one of the sayings of the Prophet that this hammer is different from the ones we see in this life, if a mountain was hit with it, it will turn it into gravel.

We ask Allah to protect us from the punishment in the grave and grant us Paradise without punishment.

And Allah knows best.

mashaaAllah

what a great topic ..

let me add to this some proof from the Qoran that the unbelievers are in fact punished in their graves.

The proof is that Allah The Exalted says:

????? ?????? ????? ???? ?????? ???? ???? ?????? ?????? ??? ????? ???? ??????

so the verse from the Koran says that the family of Fir^awn (The Pharoah) would be exposed twice per day to hell fire, in the morning and in the evening, and THEN on the last day they would be sent to the worst punishment .....

so we understand from this that the aforementioned exposition to hell fire twice per day is BEFORE the last day.......

Those members of the Pharoah family were the rulers of thier time.......... so they were exposed to all the pleasures in this life...

we conclude from this that the exposition to hell fire twice per day is absolutely certainly in their graves, as it is not in this life, and not in the hereafter (they would be then all the time and permanently in hell fire, not exposed to it, and not twice per day.... )

and this explanation is EXACTLY what the hadith of the prophet salla Allahu ^alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam confirms.

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim

Insha'Allaah we can expand on this topic of the grave and death, please edit the post if you see fit. baraka-llaahu fikum

We have been advised to think often of death as your fear of Allâh increases and it helps us prepare better for death.
Allâh ta^ala said in an ayah which means:
" And fear a day in which you will give accounts to Allâh and then every soul will recieve reward for any good it has done and noone will be wronged"

One prepares for the hereafter with taqwa and the signs of taqwa are obeying Allâh and avoiding sins (disobedience)
Allâh ta^ala said in the Quran in an ayah which means :
" And fear Allâh and what you have prepared for tomorrow and fear Allâh who knows about what you have done"

Before you are judged you should judge yourselves, be honest as to what is wrong with you before you find out on the day of judgement.

Al Bukhari reported a hadith in the 'Book of Slavery' that the Prophet sallalahu ^alayhi wassalam said what means:
"ddunniya has gone and it is finished and the akhira is coming ((means this dduniya will end and the hereafter is coming to us whatever we do)) so be sons of the hereafter and do not be sons of this dduniya ((refering to people who get hypnotized by this dduniya)) today is actions and there is no judgement and tomorrow is judgement with no actions"
