What is the punishment in Islam from Allah for a muslim woman not covering her head while going outside ie not covering the top of the head or the face?

I see many muslim sisters in University wearing western-style clothes and tight clothing :notme  :no2

Islam has no fixed standard as to the style of dress or type of clothing that Muslims must wear
BUT ;  

Ayesha (R) reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr (R) came to the Messenger of Allah (S) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." (Abu Dawood)
The clothing must be loose enough so as not to describe the shape of the woman's body. One desirable way to hide the shape of the body is to wear a cloak over other clothes. However, if the clothing is loose enough, an outer garment is not necessary. Thickness  ,The clothing must be thick enough so as not to show the color of the skin it covers or the shape of the body.

In the end :
Hijab is not merely a covering dress but more importantly, it is behavior, manners, speech and appearance in public. Dress is only one facet of the total being

Why not just dress casually?

Don't go out of your way to make your selfrevealing, but at the same time don't go out of the way to reveal yourself.

It never specifically says or orders women to wear hijab or to expose only face and hands. It is just good suggestion, and even then it is a bit too figurative.

I agree with you 100% that muslim sisters must cover their heads when they go out in public....


I also agree with brother Wael on what he said on the more global and generic idea of Hijab : not only dressing correctly, but also behaving, and talking with self-respect.


....... this said, I would strongly encourage you and others not to focus all of their attention on this point : covering the head, or the hijab.

After all, not covering the head when in public, is not that abhorent ugly sin such as not praying or not fasting.

Most importantly is to learn the right belief and the obligatory knowledge of Islam.

I am truly proud that TalkAboutIslam is doing a serious effort in this regard : teaching the obligatory knowledge and the right belief to the masses behind their screens.

I just wanted to add one point. It is not obligatory  for the woman to cover her face - She will not be committing a sin if she does not . However, if she does cover her face for the sake of Allah ta^ala , it is a rewardable deed.  :apl1

It is obligatory for the woman to cover all of her body except her face and hands. So, if she does not, she is disobeying her Lord, which is punishable.  :notme

In some schools of thought the feet below the ankle bone can be revealed too, providing that one can be sure that the clothing will not rise above this point, and you are not doing it to attract someone.
