Patience
« on: Thursday 20 December 2001, 11:56 »
Assalamou Alaykom wa rahmatullahi wa barakatoh

Dear brothers and sisters, I would like to remind you of the importance of patience.

Patience is a very important thing; it might also be the key to solve our problems. When you face a problem dear brother/sister, be patient, and trust me, if you think of your problems as a way of gaining rewards, you will feel much better, and less stressful, moreover you might even be happy to have them.

I know a person who had a problem for 10 years, she used to make dou3a2 and pray, nothing else she could do, after 10 years of patience her problem was solved, and now she is very happy. She always tell me “this might be a very good lesson for you sweetie, life is not easy, but one of the keys for it is patience”. She told me: “bad reactions, anger, running away, bad moods and even tears are not the solution, we should be strong, and patients”. She was right, I saw her miserable, but STRONG, I saw her crying many times, but in the same time she was a great woman, her kids were well raised and her house was very well organized (in every way you can think of). After 10 years, the only problem in her life was solved, she didn’t have to run to another country to look for the rest, she didn’t have to change her way of life, all she did was being patient.
I really admire that woman, she taught me a good lesson in my life.

We all know that Islam encourages patience and insha2allah we gain rewards when we are patient with the problems we face. We face many problems during the day, we can use these problems earn rewards.

Brothers/sisters, we have to remember that we always have to nsa7i7 al niyya lillah ta^aala, in order to gain rewards.

A great example for patience is our beloved prophet Ayyoub, 3alayhissalam, he was patient when he was sick, and his wife, who supported him and stayed with him, helping him. She had a major problem but she was patient.
Also we can think of the best woman, Sayidatouna Maryam. She faced everyone at that time, when she had her baby (the prophet Isaa), without a father.

I don’t know if everyone knows the story of (Mashitat bint Fer3awn), the woman who used to brush the hair of the daughter of Fer3awn. That woman was a Muslim at that time, but no one knew that. One day she was brushing the daughter’s hair, and the comb fell down on the floor. She picked it up saying “Bismillah”, then mean daughter heard her, and asked her if she doesn’t worship her dad, fer3awn. Of course the woman said “NO”, she said she worships only “Allah”. The daughter went and told her dad. He was very mad, and he boiled water, and brought her sons. He threw them one after the other in the boiling water. He wanted the woman to change her religion, he wanted her to worship him instead of Allah, the great woman was a good Muslim, and in spite of what she is seeing, she was patient, and she kept saying, “There is no God except Allah”… At the end, he killed her baby son; he was only few months old. Before he threw him in the boiling water, the baby talked to his mother and told her: be patient mother… He also told her that she is right. The mean fer3awn threw him in the boiling water in front of the mother’s eyes, and still she was saying, “There is no God except Allah”. At the end, she was also killed in the water (after making a wish of putting all the bones in the same grave).

That woman also teaches us a lesson. Honestly, I don’t think anyone of us these days is facing problems such as the ones stated before. If they were patient on their problems, what about us? We should be much better, we should be stronger.

Some people complain a lot, however in reality we have a lot of things we should Thank God for, and once we face a problem, we should be patient.[/size] ;)

Wish you the best

Assalamu alaykum my dear sister True Muslim.

Barak allahu feeki for posting such a valued contribution to TAI. Your topic patience deserves attention as so i would like to add this ayah and the explanation to it.

Surah (wu-linabluanakum bishay'in min al-khafi wul-jou^I wu nuqss min al amwal wul anfus wuthamarat wu bashiris-sabirina-lathina  itha assabathum mussibah qualu inna lillah wu inna illayhi raji^un  'Ulaa'ika  ^alayhim ssalawat min rabihim wu rahmah wu 'olaika hum al-muhtadun

In this Ayah Allah informs that He has created this life on earth and meant it to be full of calamities and unrest. He has sent upon it such experiences as hunger, fear, sadness, discomfort and other forms of calamities. Some of calamities appear in financial matters or problems of trade. Other calamities may appear in the form of illness suffered by ones child or even ones self. The Muslim who is patient and tolerates any kind of calamity facing him is promised great rewards by Allah. This is evident in the words of the ayah meaning: 'give the good news to the patient ones'. The state of affairs typical of this life are associated with troubles, worries and sadness.

Those who are afflicted with such calamities should seek comfort in worship and remain firm in their belief in Allah and not allow themselves to become consumed by their worries to such a degree that weakens their faith. Such people should know that the calamities they are experiencing are of benefit to them in one of two ways: these calamities could be a means by which their bad deeds may be lessened, if they remain tolerant and praise Allah for the good and bad; or these calamities could even be a means by which the person is elevated to a higher rank. In this case he would have no sins to account for and therefore deserving of a higher spiritual rank.
Moreover, patience is an honourable attribute that Allah grants those that He willed goodness for. So it is a virtue that should be valued. Not every one has this attribute and is able to remain steadfast worshipping Allah in hard times. In his sayings the prophet has indicated that patience is among the most virtuous and generous things that Allah may grant an individual. So it is upon the Muslim to abide by the worship and obedience of Allah and be patient, leaving out the act of questioning the will of Allah.

It is blasphemy to question the will of Allah, and makes the person rejected by Allah, needless to mention the fact that it won't help correct the bad experience in any way. Instead that person has made it worse for him/her self by refusing to accept with graciousness what Allah has given him/her.  Our life on earth is a life of bad experiences and calamities, if the Muslim is patient with them he will be among the victorious in the hereafter and if he chooses to question this he will be among the loses in the hereafter.

May Allah make us among those who are victorious in the hereafter and benefit us from our calamities and grant us the virtuous attribute of patience mentioned in the ayah:
wu-linabluanakum bishay'in min al-khafi wul-jou^I wu nuqss min al amwal wul anfus wuthamarat wu bashiris-sabirina-lathina  itha assabathum mussibah qualu inna lillah wu inna illayhi raji^un  'Ulaa'ika  ^alayhim ssalawat min rabihim wu rahmah wu 'olaika hum al-muhtadun
