Happy Eid my friend, I'm sorry that we didn't answer this question yesterday, I just saw it today, but I hope that the answer will help for the next eid in shaa Allah (F)

The prayer of Eid is recommended, u can pray it alone, or in jama^a, men and women can pray it.

You need to pray 2 rak^ahs in salat al eid, it begin with the takbirah of Ihram that u usually say in regular prayers, and u intend to pray salat eid al adha (or al fitir if it was taht eid).

Then u say 7 takbirahs in the first rak^ah, then u read the faitiha and continue till the end of the rak^ah like u pray usually.
Then, in the second rak^ah, u say th takbirah 5 times, and continue till u finish the rak^ah and the prayer.

The time for Eid prayer is after a clear sunrise, and end at the Zawal time, which is the time for (Al-Dhuhor) Noon prayer.
In addition to that, Eid prayer is  confirmed Sunnah which is recomended , and the  one who has missed it can make it up (qada').

I'm a bit confused cuz I just read on a thread that Eid prayer is compulsory:

(Note that it is compulsory for everyone to attend, The Prophet and his companions never ceased doing it and The Prophet commanded everyone including women, children and elderly to attend. Even menstruating women should go to the place of congregation so that they may partake in the blessings. [Bukhaari and Muslim] so don't leave the wife and kids/sisters at home! And if they are attending make sure that they are dressed appropriately and respectfully, Remember Eid salat is not a fashion show!)

but I always thought it was sunnah.

In the Shafe'i school, Eid prayer is Sunnah. i.e. it's not obligatory. If you missed it , it's not a sin.
I don't know about other schools. I need to ask.
