HOW !!!!!!! (To all muslims)
« on: Monday 03 February 2003, 03:51 »
How would not every muslim feel totally frustrated and insulted to see his Qor'an being ridiculed in this way and used as a marketing banner.....

I do not like to see anyone's religion ridiculed.  It is not an appropriate form of criticism.  (I am also sad to see someone blame it on Jews without evidence.)

It is possible that it was produced out of sheer ignorance.  The 'belly dancer' and female 'genie' are common motifs of the Middle East in the West, and presumably in westernized Japan as well.  The company that produced it may be appropriately embarrassed if it is brought to their attention.   I remember the objections to using the Saudi flag on materials by McDonald's Corp. because of the Qu'ranic verse on it, so it was replaced by a plain green banner with a sword alone.

Which verse of the Qu'ran, may I ask as I don't read Arabic, has been misused here?

It would help me to know - to be sure that it is in fact a religious text.  If I knew the particular verse #:#, I could then check it for myself by matching it character by character to an Arabic Qu'ran.  Please ABDU...

Actually, that is done all the time.  If it is done in a reverential manner, I think that the advertising value for the religion is considered worthwhile. Christians, as you probably know, do not have the same aversion to images that Muslims do.  But the image in question does not appear even intended "reverential" in any way.

Let's not generalize.  Are there not any Japanese Muslims?  Whoever did this is responsible.

Sure challenger my friend, it is Surat Al-Baqarah verse#177

and here it is :

ليس البر أن تولوا وجوهكم قبل المشرق والمغرب ولكن البر من ءامن بالله واليوم الآخر والملآئكة والكتاب والنبيين وءاتى المال على حبه ذوي القربى واليتامى والمساكين وابن السبيل والسآئلين وفي الرقاب وأقام الصلاة وءاتى الزكاة والموفون بعهدهم إذا عاهدوا والصابرين في البأساء والضراء وحين البأس أولئك الذين صدقوا وأولئك هم المتقون
[/b]

Of course not all the verse is shown in the picture ....

It may be disturbing, however, for ages the cross has been misused and misrepresented.  It is done now and has been done since the first century.  In the first century, the primary "crimes" believers were tried for in the Roman Empire were Atheism (for not following the Emperor Cult and worshipping the Roman idols), canabalism (because they eat the "flesh" and drink the "blood" of their God in Communion) and incest (because they call every other believer brother or sister yet are married to a spouse that is also a Christian Brother/Sister.  False charges are a part of being in ANY religion that people do not understand or feel excluded from.  Excluding unbelievers of a religion from the religious practices is common and those that are OUTSIDE will simply make up stories based on half-truths and on rumors because they have no facts.

my two drakma

ciao
