BISMILLAAH
Be Aware
Born into this world unaware of a worry,
If they left you alone you’d know in a hurry,
That mankind had a beginning and is susceptible to end,
This beginning of yours happened and this life will surely end.
You and all the things you have in this world,
Two hands that move with fingers curled,
That feel what’s smooth and sense what’s rough,
Are you thankful to your Creator for making them tough?
When they do break do you scream and shout?
“I will stop sinning,” you say, “without doubt”.
“Just give me my hand back and stop all the pain.”
When your hand’s back, do those words go down the drain?
Do you forget what you said and if once remembered,
You say, “I wasn’t thinking, I was desperate and injured.”
In fact you were thinking but then you stopped,
The moment that your level of pain had dropped.
You said “alHamdu lillaah” then got busy with the world,
But when you said it did you think of the meaning of the word?
Some people use this hand and no other,
To hold cups of wine or to hit their mother,
God ordered them not to, yet these things they do,
Using the hand God has given to you.
Don’t they feel guilt when they don’t do good?
Don’t they feel shame when in bad they stood?
God gave the slaves all their endowments,
Thanking Him means obeying His Commandments.
He gave you a voice to use it to talk,
Tell with it the truth, praise God while you walk,
He gave you two ears, the truth you can hear,
But listening to some things might get you brass in your ear,
He gave you two feet, which way will you go?
Will you follow the sinners or stand up and say no?
He gave you a heart, but remember my friend,
It is at this organ that the devil can send,
Ideas and thoughts meant to drive you away,
From doing the good and finding the way.
Learn about Islaam for with knowledge you will gain,
A weapon against the devils and those misleaders who feign.
As you grow with your knowledge, you can realise more things,
So that when familiar things happen, a little bell rings.
Or when you see people like bin laden on TV,
You know to say this guy doesn’t represent me,
For there are people in this world who have an aim,
Which does not comply with what they claim.
For this reason you need to be concerned,
Acquire religious knowledge, revise what you learned.
Don’t be lazy and say it’s ok,
Because there are people out there leading astray.
Be a person who thinks of others,
Use what you have, to help sisters and brothers,
Out of the darkness of sin, and into the light,
Help them to feel that their future can be bright.
Do not leave them to be preyed on by devils,
Who claim to be their friends and on their levels,
But really are corrupted and come to the youth,
Who are alone and have no access to the truth.
This poem was begun a long time ago,
I guess I wrote it for people to know,
That staying away from sins is important,
And preaching to others must not be forgotten.
With knowledge comes piety, and what a great gift,
There’s much to learn, May this poem give you a lift,
For many issues have been touched in here,
May Allaah grant you their explanation in a time that’s near.
