I heard somewhere that these were invented by associates of Muhammed (pbuh) after most beloved Aiyasha was betrothed to the Prophet to protect beautiful young girls from dishonest umma and mulla alike.

Is this a myth?

No, what you heard is not true.... for the prophet himself ordered the hijab and the proper islamic wearing for muslim women.

This is not something that the companions invented. This is the teaching of the prophet himself.

Question about niqab

Assalaamu Alaikum warahmatullah

I have a question also.  InshaAllah someone can help me.  I have heard conflicting stories on whether or not niqab is obligatory, recommended, etc.  Being a new muslimah, things are still confusing to me at times.  I have been studying and feel that niqab would provide extra modesty.  My question is can a husband forbid his wife to wear niqab?

JazkahAllah Khair to anyone who can offer an answer inshaAllah.

in this, as in any other issue in our religion, before saying this is OK and this is Not, one should have the proof ready.

Whoever told you anything about niqab and veil should provide his proof.

Although that wasn't quite what I was looking for, jazkahAllah Khair for your reply.  I've read proof for both sides of this issue, and that's where the confusion is.  InshaAllah I will make dua and find the answer myself.
