break fast on Dates
« on: Wednesday 10 August 2011, 14:46 »
Dear Brothers and Sisters

 :salam1

Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said in a hadith what it means: if someone wants to break fast he should break it on date because it is blessed, and if he does not have any then on water because it is purifying.

They have been finding more and more benefits for the dated, and they are not just a traditional Ramadan treat for daylight fasters. Experts insist that eating only three dried or ripe dates are enough to compensate the fasting of an entire day for those who take part in the Islamic holy month.

Ripe dates contain a high percentage of sugars, ranging between one quarter to half the weight of the date; they also contain 65 to70 percent of water and small amounts of fiber, protein and vegetable fat, while dried dates contain a greater amount of sugar that may reach half or three quarters the weight of the fruit. The percentage of water reaches almost one quarter of the date’s weight.

Experts recommend letting the stomach and intestines rest, after eating the dates for 15 to 20 minutes in order for it to absorb and extract the sugar that will eventually return the body’s sugar levels to normal.

Despite the numerous benefits of dates, ranging from liver fortifying elements to thyroid gland stimulators, experts have warned they should not be consumed in big quantities as they are high in calories.

A total of ten dried dates contain 350 calories, and so experts advise the consumption of ripe dates instead since the same amount contains 136 calories only.

Allah knows best.

Salam
