do essential human attitudes change?!
« on: Wednesday 16 December 2009, 06:37 »
 :salam all!
have u read anything by Sheikh Sa'adi?! im reminded of one of his stories (the book is Gulistan-e-Sa'adi) in which there was a gang of theives who had a child of around 5 or 6 years old with them as well...the king of that time ordered that these men e rounded off and then executed, as they not only looted and plundered but they also killed and dishonoured the women! What happened was that these men were caught and were executed too, but the Vizir (prime minister) took pity on the little boy and asked the king to spare him. The king was reluctant and he told his Vizir that 'child of a snake will remain a snake, no matter how much u nourish it on cow's milk!' The Vizir remained adamant, and took the child to his home and brought him up with his own sons. That child grew up to be an accomplished boy when one day he came to know from some people that the Vizir was responsible for the murder of his real father...that boy killed the Vizir as well as his sons...and created a new gang of theives! The king was proven right!!

when i think of this story, i m forced to reconsider what i believe about changes in humans...! what do u say?
Prayer is something that we do in our time while answer to it is something that comes in ALLAH'S time!

Not necessarily bro, sometimes the "genes" comes out stronger, if the boy, what I presume, was raised in a sane or noble environment, he wouldn't have done what he did.

Your family, parents, friends and your teachers, everything counts.

Hello Syd,

The topic of change is wide and good one to pick.

I didn't read about that guy but from a friend lately.
I do belive people change, or else why Allah created us.

My evidence for that is a Hadith by our Prophet saying "Learning is owned by learning, good morals are owned by practising good morals and patience is owned by trying to be patient"
The arabic for that is (in case I missed the English translation)
"‘إنما العلم بالتعلم و إنما الحلم بالتحلم و إنما الصبر بالتصبر"

Nice topic
Amr

I think it depends on the environment the person had grown up  Everyone is descendant  of two prophets  at least. I mean Adam and Nuh ( aliyhimassalam)

yes...but is the environment that strong that it can battle with genes...thats my question!! what is stronger? or is it relative to people...some give in to genes, whereas others let the environment shape their character...u tell? ive no idea here :)
