A bomb blast outside a Roman Catholic cathedral in the southern Philippines has killed five people and injured at least 26 others, officials say.
The military immediately blamed the attack in the town of Cotabato, Mindanao, on a militant group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The group has been fighting to establish a separate Islamic state.
One of its leaders denied any involvement in the attack, saying there was no religious conflict in the south. The bomb went off outside the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception as people were leaving Mass, the army said.
Police told AFP news agency that two of the dead were soldiers guarding the cathedral.
Militant denial
A military spokesman, Col Jonathan Ponce, said rogue MILF militants were suspected of planting the bomb.
"The rebels are getting desperate and they are no longer choosing their targets," he said.
"They are now attacking even places of worship."
But a leader of the MILF, Mohaqher Iqbal, denied his group had been involved in the attack.
"Who needs a Christian-Muslim conflict?" he told Reuters news agency in a mobile phone text message.
"There's no religious conflict in the south. We're fighting for our right of self-determination. We're only defending our people and our communities."

The evil forces of global outreach caused this to pin it on Moslems. God only knows how long it's gonna go but the opening of an another "front" means this is not gonna stop, the main thing is that this is happening where the Moslem population is huge like in UK, India, China and now Phillippines.

These bombings and subsequent blaming of Moslems means to "disconnect" Moslems from the land they are living in and make them suspicious in one stroke.

 This could not be any further from the truth. The main goal of Christian missionaries is to be a witness to the truth about the one and only savior of the world..Jesus Christ. The Christians do this out of love for their fellow man. They do this in a non-violent way. People actually get to make a choice without the fear of being mutilated. Now granted, Christians are fully aware that Islam is a false religious system that holds over a billion people in subjection to its false teachings, but the missionaries are not going about their missions in terms of changing entire cultures, they are working on one heart, one person at a time. Praise God that many millions of muslims around the world and particularly in Iran are coming to the truth about Jesus Christ.

Bro Venroe 777 you are a good person and this is reflected by your thoughts but our first-hand experience is that almost all Americans Missionaries are fooling the Arab people by publishing their material in Arabic, ok, I confess this is good, but what they do is to print "Mohammad" in bold so most of the people are deceived thing that this is some Islamic material.

BUT Muslims do not mis-treat them, while in India these missionaries who are preaching in India and converting the Hindus into Christianity are usually "burned alive" or are killed or are abducted and that's the end of them.

The Australian Government have protested to the Indian Government and it is on record, remember Muslims are tolerant of Christians.
