Switch in the US presidency
« on: Monday 05 January 2009, 06:33 »
Tomorrow marks two weeks until Senator Barack Obama will be inaugurated into the White House to replace America's current President George Bush. If you didn't already know, Sen. Obama was a former Muslim (and since attending college has become a declared atheist). He will also be America's first non-white president. Do you think these changes will help to repair and strengthen America's relations with the Middle East?

I'm hoping that relations between these two nations will improve, and I have some hope, too: Sen. Obama has already mandated that he will have all US troops out of Iraq no more than 16 months after he is inaugurated. That, to me, is a bold statement, and leaves some hope that the US and the Middle East can become friendly once again.

Or, do you think too much damage has been done between the US and Middle East for relations to be repaired within a few years. What is everyone's opinion?

Now, although I'm hopeful that Obama can make peace and do well, I'm not so grateful that there's a Congress full of Democrats.  ;D

you will be surprised to see how short the arab collective memory is ....

a few dollars sprinkled here and there and the US would be back to business in the middle east..   we are such a shallow nation .... we don't read. we don't know our history. we are a nation without a past that we are aware of, and thus, without a future.

That's a very ... interesting thing to say about your own region. I just hope that the war stops, the economy does a 180, and peace is made between everyone again.

But that's a lot to ask for, so we'll see.

Wow racist remarks don't you think.

Even at that, he is not African American he is Arab.

Therefore, these slangs would not apply.  Let’s not forget he never claimed to be African American.  People just assumed this to be true.

Is this they same as jokes I hear all the time at work about me being a terrorist because I am looking into Islam.

Maybe the same as the term rag head and Sand nig I hear all the time.

Alternatively, they pole they have out here on how long Obama will live before some tries to off him because he is not white.

I thought this site was place I could go with out this, but I am hearing it more and more like the word infidels to describe all of western cultures.

At same time from what I understand if, some starts mocking Islam I am suppose to leave conversation or defend Islam.  Sounds like a double standard to me.

If I ask people at work or say something, it too is always a joke even though it may be ten times in a two-hour period.

Each joke either hurts some one or influences some one.

Let us end stereotypes and work together.  :thumbs
