As I have posted before, one of the verses that describe absurdity of plural God is stated in Quran :

[Al-Mu'minuun 23:91]
"Never did Allah take to Himself a son, and never was there with him any (other) god-- in that case would each god have certainly taken away what he created, and some of them would certainly have overpowered others; glory be to Allah above what they describe!"

If that was the case, the story of Hercules would have been a reality.

One of the miracle and our way to prove the truth of Islam is by observing Quran. Why?

- the only God verses that is authentic. Muhammad saw asked and has witnessed Quran write. A minimum of three person have heard, read, and witnessed every verses in Quran and a chained of Quran teller can be traced from nowdays to during the Muhammad saw era.

- No one can imitate even a single Surah in Quran. It is challenged by 4Wl Himself for every one to bring any help he can provide to create a surah that can imitate Quran. Until today, no one has.

- If you observe more, Quran has the best pattern/poetic-like aspect that was so beautiful to hear even if we don't understand. Deeper observation, even the letter and word (mostly) match a specific rule and pattern. Subhanallah, Only 4Wl the creator of earth and universe that can.

Then it is clear that Islam is the only true teaching from 4Wl, which other religion are not.

Shouldn’t I study the Qur'an a little more first?  I have been studying for about six months, but I was also studying bible and others at same time.

I also found out that the first Qur'an I was using was  Interpreted incorrectly.  It came from small bookstore and it was spelled Koran.

When I got other books to learn about Islam they would refer me to Qur’an, and when I would read mine many times it would not say what other books said it should.

The local library had a good copy of the holy Qur’an, and it made all the difference in the world.

In addition, I do not want to go to a  Mosque and look like a fool and destroy the rituals because of my lack of knowledge.

On this note, can any one recommend some good books to help me interpit the Qur’an and learn Muslim ways?

I.E. what are the 99 names of G_D?

Salam

The first thing before become a moslem is to find why Islam is the truth one. You can take whatever way you want before deciding to convert to Islam, as one must responsible with his choice after he became a moslem. Do research, find its fault, then discuss it with someone who's expert in Islam teaching. Don't rush, but also don't get into hesitation.

You don't have to follow moslem ritual in the mosque. Infact, I guess they wouldn't allow except moslem. But my guess is, someone's there to provide the answer you have. Look for the Imam. Tell that you want to discuss about islam. Ask him to meet somewhere else than the mosque. He would be very happy to, as it's an obligation for a moslem to answer as far as he can others question about faith.

I think there's a lot of free Quran translation and Hadith software on the web. Sadly, I can't recommend any book as I only knew indonesian books. Maybe your local Islamic center has the answer.

Sometimes, read Quran translation alone is not enough. The source of Islam teach/law is Quran and Hadith. Ones that are general in Quran are being specified by hadith. Beside translation, there are Quran interpretation called Tafseer. As Tafseer have a clearer and specific explanation of every verses according to Islam rule, I think this is recommended reading. Usually, Tafseers were wrote by Islam Individual Scholar. e.g : Tafseer written by Ibnu Katstsir named tafseer Ibnu Katstsir and so on.

Learning is a lifetime process, as finding the truth of Islam is by find that Islam is soothing, really understand and perfect for humankind, while logically correct. So, wait no more. Seize the truth now. Hope you're find the right path.

And by the way, 4Wl never ask more than one cannot have. Its OK to can't do prayer (or any other ritual) correctly as lacking information about it. Just gradually find the correct way while doing so. It is said in Quran by the way.

99 names of 4Wl or "Asmaa'ul Husna" (translate: Most Beautiful Names) is the name 4Wl gives for Himself as it's describe about 4Wl character (is this word correct in English?) that muslims must believe.

There's article of it at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_God_in_the_Qur'an

Hope that would help.
