Topic: Is Pepsi Halal or Haram?? What are your views?

Assalam-o-Alaikum!
   A few days back, I read an Islamic article in the newspaper. The aim of the article was to show which things, now a days, are considered as “Hilal (Allowed)” and which are considered as “Haram(Prohibited)”. Going through all things mentioned as “Haram”, I read the name of internationally known and loved drink “Pepsi”. The author said that it contains pepsin from Pig’s body. As pig is considered “Haram” in Islam, so Muslims should also not take in Pepsi as well. Pepsi is my favorite drink. After reading that, I decided not to take that in future as it has been considered “Haram” in Islam. That was a hard decision to take but I stood by my words and stopped consuming Pepsi.
   Yesterday, I was watching an Islamic program where the same question about Pepsi was asked. Does it really contains pepsin from pig? But expert sitting there refused to accept that. He declared it “Hilal” and refused the existence of any type of enzymes in it. Now, I am so confused. I really need to know whether it is a “Hilal” drink or “Haram”. Can anyone make this clear to me please?? Does it really contain pepsin from pig or not? And do you drink Pepsi? I shall be very grateful.

if it's not clear whether the making of pepsi involving pepsin from haram/prohibited source even the end product doesn't contain them (as it's part of company secrecy, much like coca-cola secret recipe), just avoid them. anyway, a soda contained drink is not good for your health.

If your mind is still thinking between halal or haram it will become more to haram so my suggestion is also same as fraudulent which better you just avoid. If you just leave it also will not cause any problem right as what I know we are not getting much benefit from this kind of drink.

so would you say coca cola would be possibly haram to drink> ? or fanta or sprite? 
they all come from the same company, a "secret recipe"

It is possible as long as they don't reveal the process. In my country, Ajinomoto (a monosodium glutamate factory) were found accidentally of using pig pepsin in their process. We need to be very careful with what we're eating.

actually its the 1st post for me here .. so um so happy that um sharing u this..
i can't say halal or haram as its not my job to do so ..

but i can say 2 things..

1st if it was haram i think all muslims will know that specially in mecca and madina .. i think any famous " sheikh " will say it is ,actually saudi arabia is already producing Be-cola and so on .. which is like pepsi ..

2nd, i asked someone about this .. and he said that .. it may contains something nearly like pig think .. as a chemical wise .. like soap .. it also contains something chemically like pig things .. but it doesn't mean its taken from a pig ..

I agree with you, Pepsi is halal, and recently some people has been coming up with so many unusual ways to make it hard for the muslims to eat and drink without making them feel scared and doubtful.
It's very simple and very easy, to tell the difference. Sub7anna- Allah

ASA, By the way,where did these drinks originate from(country)? Sometimes it becomes a political issue too,so that we Muslims should not spend our money on Western soft drinks.
But how sure are you  when you buy halal meat(slaughtered according to Islam)from a Halal Meat Store?

Dear Farrah;

As you know when a person asks about Halal or Haram in Religion, then politics is out of our concern. Religion does not change according to where or when. Islam is for all people all countries and the rules are same for all.
Therefore, we cannot makeup rules to suit our needs, but we change to suit the rules.
As for the question how do we know if we are eating Halal meat.
We have to ask and double check and check the place where we are buying from, and the owner is he selling Halal and non Halal next to each other or in the same store.
You have to have a conviction about the meat, you may not eat the meat if you have any doubts.
May Allah reward us for all our efforts.

I buy meat from Halal store but my Muslim friends tell me that it is not slaugtered the Islamic way but still we all buy from there. It seems like we rely only the name "HALAL MEATS". Should we still be doubtful?
