ALLAH knows the best. The perfect believers dont need to know the reasons for HIS will, but yet, when we try to represent the beauty of our religion to someone who is in search for truth or argues we need to point out some of the amazing benefits to convince them.
I must say, most of the people misjudge this topic and fail to discover the true beauty in it.
- First of all, its not a must that man should marry 4 women at a time, but Islam permits that they MAY marry 4, if they can manage and do justice to all of them. And needs no telling, if there wasn't this permission, people would need to break the law of their religion in special occasions.
As a brother said-
Hundreds of thousands of men have died throughout the history and are still dying in wars all over the world every year leaving their life partners behind.
When governments make laws they need to make sure that the laws will not be void in desperate times and will be applicable to any circumstance imaginable.
Same about this PERMISSION.
Secondly- even in the present world in most of the countries women are dependent on their male partners for financial needs and social safety. There, if there was limitation set to one single marriage at a time, many dependent women would be helplessly dumped by their husbands for a second marriage.
I agree this is not regarded to be a decent mentality in many developed countries but this is the real picture in the third world.
Thirdly- medical science says- usually women are fertile during a lesser span of time than men. In the countries where rearing many children is encouraged men would be forced to divorce their first wives after menopause. Again, I say, this is not regarded as a decent mentality in many developed countries and the size of families are smaller there, but this is a practical fact in many countries.
And lastly, this is not the minimum limit, but its the MAXIMUM limit for a man and thus it definitely puts a restriction on the numbers. Its here to check the lust in them instead.
Women were always devalued in most of the societies throughout centuries. Not only in the then Arabs but also in other parts of the world. In some other religions people are encouraged to marry their daughters off to clerics who used to marry even more than 100 women at the same time.
Women and girls were treated like wealth to possess.
And Islam drew an end to this abuse.
Islam speaks about humanity. Family life and rearing children arent meant to be for pleasure and amusement only. Its a big responsibility. So, if someone looks at it with a lustful mind he will see the Law of one color and if someone looks at it with good intention and a pure soul it will appear to him of another color.
And I want to end saying, these are opinions only and can be 100% wrong.Only ALLAH knows the best. May HE guide us to the path of truth.
