Can a woman become a Prime Minister or a President of an Islamic State or in an Islamic country?

in Islam concept of goverment and nation, the Khilafah which is the true and the only Islamic Nation, then women cannot become any of top govermental position. This include the head of the nation court, the head of military, and many level below.

But if we talk about majority moslem country that using secularistic system i.e democracy, then it is possible e.g Pakistan Butho and Indonesia Megawati. This because the islamic rule or syari'a was neglected as a consecuences from a secular country.

The more we, as Moslems stray away from the centre, the more we are lost. According to Islamic fiqh a woman cannot become the head of state of an Islamic country, so must we not believe and act upon this one.

The reason we are having women Prime Ministers is that we have accepted the Western style of democracy, which is against our system and which also has many flaws. The french revolution brought democracy not through peaceful means but through a bloody revolution where the guns and muskets brought down the castles of feudalism.

But, in the end, it brought chaos to the society, Edmund Burke wrote a wonderful book and I just can't recall the name of it, lemme check. Thanks

This world has changed. The women are no more living within 4 walls. What is wrong with that?

Sister Farah, there is nothing wrong with that except it doesn't match with our religious commandment (A PERSONAL OPINION NOT BASED ON ISLAMIC LAW - ADDED BY THE ADMINISTRATOR) . Islam has given more rights to women than any other religion, please note that Islam was the first religion to stop the female infanticide - Islam also accepts the right of woman and admires her role in raising children, looking after the domestic matters while husband is given the job to be a "bread-winner" for the family.

I am not a Jurist, but it would not be hard to understand that during the impure state of "those-seven-days" a woman sitting on the throne would be making decisions, that would take away the "Barkat" out of things (PERSONAL OPINION - NOT BASED ON ISLAMIC LAW). Being a woman yourself you know that Namaz/salat is pardoned and the reading of Holy Qur'an is also pardoned. On the seventh day they take the "Purity Shower" to get back in the pure state. [however they are not "disallowed" to take a bath during the 7 day period, its more of a cultural thing than religious]

The Western nations are proud of their female Prime Ministers but hey, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have more of them - The bottom line however is not that they are weak, but whatever I said above.

farrah ,you are so perceptive. A leader does not attempt to dominate, but to scout a path for the followers, to ease their journey.

I am not sure of your analysis - You are basing your opinion on the fact that women menstruate and so are "inpure" during those days, and so her decisions wouldn't be "pure" during those days, which doesn't make much sense to me. To start with, the idea that a woman is "inpure" during menstruation, touches on Judaic traditions, where menstruating women are not even allowed to cook! In Islam we don't have that, a menstruating woman is not prohibited from doing normal chores, I have never heard anyone in Islam say that a woman can't make important decisions while she's menstruating, and I have never heard anyone say if she does so, the decisions will not have any barakat. Excuse me if I say so, but your opinion is misguided and misguiding in my opinion. To go on and elaborate that a woman should be kept between 4 walls to raise her children and only men are allowed to be the "bread-winners" is also incorrect. Islam allows women to work, and does not limit women from leading career paths (within Islamic norms and rules).
Excuse me to say, you are one of those who give Islam a bad reputation (and I do not mean in "Western" standards, but in humanistic standards, and you are still living in a backward mentality and culture that upholds its norms and traditions as the ultimate Islamic rules, or in other words, uses Islam unwisely to promote its traditions.
I am proud of Islam, my religion, that not only allows me but also encourages me as a woman to learn, educate myself, work, and socialize. If you say otherwise, you are mistaken.
